In Marshfield, MO; each April, a group of children’s authors gather for the Cherry Blossom Festival. We felt it was time to officially name a children’s literature festival for one of the Ozark’s most famous authors, Laura Ingalls Wilder. Area librarians and representatives from the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum in Mansfield, MO, together with a Cherry Blossom Festival spokesman, formed a committee to make this Literature Festival a reality. In 2018, 2,600 school children visited the Laura Ingalls Wilder Home and Museum on field trips this past spring and fall. It is our mission that these area children be given an opportunity to meet some of their favorite authors.
This year the Literature Festival will take place on April 25th and 26th, 2019. This is a dual-location event! First travel to Marshfield, MO where the authors will be waiting for you to visit with them and a speaking schedule will be in place. Next, travel to Mansfield, MO where only a $3.00 admission fee for children and $4.00 for teachers will be paid in the main lobby. Parents will be offered a discounted $7.00 ticket.
Each child receives a brochure designed with kids in mind for the Historic Home and a brochure designed as a try-and-find for the Museum exhibits. Tours of the Historic Home will be open-house style and free-flowing both days of the Literature Festival. Experience a morning at the Historic Wilder Home in Mansfield, MO and an afternoon with the authors in Marshfield, MO; or change it up and visit the authors in the morning and the museum in the afternoon. Whatever works best for your travel schedule!
